| Though uninhabited for 600 years (at least), this
historical Inca citadel is one of the true marvels of the world !! The
magnificent, breathtaking, collection of stone ruins, palaces, towers,
temples, terraces, staircases and other remains, nestling in mountains,
surrounded by beautiful vegetation, is an unforgettable lifetime experience-in
itself worth the journey to Peru !! Machu Picchu can be reached by railroad,
helicopter or by walking the Inca Trail. The entry point to reach Machu
Picchu from Lima is Cuzco which is connected to Lima by daily flights.
Aguas Calientes is the closest town to Machu
Picchu being just at the base of the Machu Picchu Citadel and on the train
route from Cuzco. It is a good choice for reasonably priced hotels as an
alternative to the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge which is the only hotel
actually on the Citadel. Aguas Calients is only less than a mile away from
the Puente Ruinas train station. From Aguas Calientes there are buses that
will take you to the ruins.
